Wrestling Roundup: January 27-28

Three Rivers and Sturgis competed Saturday in the Corey Fuller Invitational wrestling event at Portage Central.  The Wildcats took the top team spot with a 248.5 team score, while the Trojans were ninth at 51.0.

Gold medal performances for TR came from Jacob Reynolds (285), Talan Flowers (120), Louis Smith (144), Jeremiah Detwiler (157), and Lloyd Ruesink (190).  Taking second were Clinton Kaiser (106) and Landon Moreland (150).

Other notables from Three Rivers included a third from Jaxon Smith (175), Carter Hensley (126), and Jak Monroe (113).  Taking fourth were Larry Joe Hensley (126), and Alex Bryant (165).

The top finishers from Sturgis were Kaiden Waldron (132) and Angel Alvarez (157); both grabbing third.

Constantine joined 19 other schools Saturday in the Greater Berrien County Invitational at St. Joseph.  The Falcons finished second with a 150 team score, only behind perennial power Lakeshore at 192.5.

Earning gold medals for Constantine were Bear Geibe (126), Troy Demas (190), and Bennett VandenBerg (215).  Grabbing second were Brody Jones (150), and Julian Hawthorne (175).  Adding fourth place finishes were Preston Like (120) and Dathan Smith (165).

On Friday, many of the same schools competed in the JV version of the event, as well as the 2nd Annual Altman Girls Event.  The Falcons’ Shayla Nickoson took third at 145 in the girls event.

Mendon was among the 18 wrestling teams competing Saturday in the McGinnis-Evans Invitational at Battle Creek Central.  The Hornets placed 14th in the team score with 34 points.  Noah Iobe was the lone Mendon medalist, taking second at 285 pounds with his lone defeat against undefeated Judah Kinne of Lake Orion by 9-2 decision.
