Below are wrestling results reported for St. Joseph County schools for Saturday, January 14.
Three Rivers went 5-0 on the day in the Dexter Team Tournament. The Wildcats swept Grass Lake 81-0, rolled Hanover-Horton 70-6, topped Salem 69-12, downed Dexter 69-9, and topped Trenton 52-28.
Finishing a perfect 5-0 for TR were Jak Monroe, Talan Flowers, Ayden Keller, Louis Smith, Jeremiah Detwiler, Lloyd Ruesink, and Jake Reynolds. Going 4-1 were Clinton Kaiser, Carter Hensley, Alex Bryant, and Jaxon Smith.
Three Rivers also saw junior Talan Flowers earn his 100th career win.
White Pigeon was among the teams Saturday competing in Bronson’s Clark Walker Memorial event. The Chiefs finished 2-2 on the day with wins over Coldwater (66-18) and Milan (65-18), but defeats against Brandywine (39-36) and Bronson (66-12). The Vikings ended up going 5-0 to claim the event title.
For WP, finishing 4-0 on the day were Mazzy Lambert and Evan Rudloff. Going 3-1 were Hunter Pant, Caleb Lane, and Chaz Underwood.
Constantine attended the Garrett Invitational in Indiana and finished second of 15 teams with a 165 score, only behind the event host’s 222. Troy Demas picked up a gold medal for the Falcons at 195 pounds. Bennett VandenBerg (220) and Gregg Reed (285) both took second.
Other notables included a third place for Bear Geibe (126) and Brody Jones (145), a fourth place for Preston Like (120), and a fifth for Julian Hawthorne (182).
The Falcons also saw Shayla Nickoson take fourth at 145 pounds elsewhere in the Northview Girls Invitational.
Mendon attended the 59th annual Jim Dewland Classic at Parma Western. The Hornets scored 75 points, placing them seventh in a 13 team field.
Noah Iobe earned event champion for Mendon at 285 pounds. Nate Vergauwen (126) and James Lux (175) secured fourth place finishes and Marcus Hodges (144) grabbed sixth.
Sturgis competed in the Buchanan Super Dual team tournament. The Trojans were competitive but went 0-5; falling to Buchanan (46-21), Niles (48-18), Eau Claire (31-30), Hopkins (42-36), and Bangor (49-27).
“Our kids wrestled hard, but giving up four voids is hard to overcome,” said Sturgis coach Brad Barkby. “I like what I’ve seen today and it is something we can build on.”
Kaiden Waldron finished undefeated on the day for the Trojans with 4-1 marks from both Angel Alvarez and Tristan Ainsworth.
