The Wolverine Conference concluded the league’s boys golf schedule with the conference championship at Bedford Valley Golf Course on Thursday. Vicksburg took the top spot with a team score of 346, followed by Plainwell at 358 and Allegan at 361. Otsego took fourth at 367 with Sturgis fifth with 373. Rounding out the field were Paw Paw (375), Niles (376), Edwardsburg (377), Three Rivers (378), and Dowagiac (392).
Individually, Hayden Goodman of Sturgis earned all-conference as his 84 round placed him fifth on the leaderboard. Graeme Herald earned honorable mention with a 92. The Trojans finished fourth overall for the league season when combining the conference tournament and league duals.
Three Rivers had Isaac Adams secure all-conference with a sixth place 87. Nick Melville scored 93, Garron Gahan 95, and Caleb Quake 103 for TR.
“I was very happy for Isaac that he was able to earn All-Conference honors today,” said Wildcats coach Patrick Kline. “He has been a bit inconsistent the past couple of weeks, so it was great to see him persevere and come through with a good round today. I was hoping that a couple more guys could earn conference honors, but we came up a bit short.”
“Garron had been playing really well coming into the tournament, but got hit with a stomach bug and just wasn’t himself today,” added Kline. “Nick shot a really nice round for us and missed out on honorable mention by just one stroke.”
“We had talked about our goal of finishing in the top half of the conference, and while that obviously didn’t play out for us, we were actually very close to completing that goal,” Kline continued. “Just five shots separated fifth and ninth place. A 373 would have placed us fifth, but it’s those extra strokes here and there that have been our Achilles most of the season.”
Both Three Rivers and Sturgis are slated for the regional tournament on Tuesday, May 31 at Stonehedge North.
