The Three Rivers wrestling team improved to 6-1 this season after picking up two victories Wednesday at Vicksburg. The Wildcats edged the host team 36-35 and got by Delton Kellogg 38-34.
Grapplers with two victories included Evan Griffioen (103 pounds), Connor McElroy (140), Shawn Brew (160), Sam Harris (215) and heavyweight Dallas Recker.
“We snuck out a couple of good wins tonight,” Three Rivers coach Pete Bachinski said. “We had some kids out tonight and some other kids step up to help out as a team to get these two wins. This team continues to climb every match.”
Vicksburg collected pins at 112 and 119 and decisions at 125 and 130. Javier Sandoval got Three Rivers back on track with a pin in 1:42 at 135 and McElroy earned an 8-5 win at 140. Dallas Todd also produced a critical 5-2 victory at 152. Brew got his pin in under a minute, Dylan Buroughs’ fall clocked in at 20 seconds ta 189, Harris got a pin in 35 seconds and Recker’s was in 1:21.
Griffioen, who won by default against Vicksburg, pinned Delton’s Jack Bever in 3:02, McElroy got a major decision, Brew grinded out a pin in 3:47 and Recker claimed a fall in 1:16.
