A torrid fourth-quarter comeback came up short for the Three Rivers boys basketball team in Friday’s 56-46 loss at Dowagiac.
The Wildcats, down 27-17 at halftime and on the wrong end of a 16-8 third quarter, outscored Dowagiac 21-13 in the final frame to make it close. The loss drops Three Rivers to 1-4 overall and 0-3 in Wolverine Conference play. The Chieftains improved to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the league.
Alex Cottingham scored a game-high 19 points, shooting 44 percent (8-for-18) from the floor, and secured 11 rebounds for a double-double. The Wildcats were a combined 19-for-52 (37 percent) for the game, 2-for-10 from 3-point range and just 6-for-12 from the foul line.
Adam Reed and Elijah Hamilton both posted eight points, Kyle Walczak recorded five, Cam Cottingham contributed four and Trenton Karle finished with two. Cam Cottingham also had three steals.
Dowagiac’s Kyle Solloway and Brandon Winchester-Jones scored 18 and 17 points, respectively.
