Improving their overall record to 16-9-1, the White Pigeon volleyball team put in plenty of work at Monday’s quad at Galesburg-Augusta. The Chiefs picked up two wins for their effort and came up just short against the host Rams in a three-set match.
White Pigeon beat Comstock 25-11, 25-13 and Climax-Scotts 25-23, 25-19. Galesburg-Augusta edged the Chiefs 19-25, 25-12, 15-12.
“For the second outing in a row, the team put together a period of very efficient volleyball,” coach Tony Hooley said. “The girls executed some of the finest floor defense I have seen in high school during our match against G-A. Bodies were flying, hitting the floor, and making some unbelievable digs to sustain rallies and win points.
“Unfortunately, they could not maintain that level of play for the entire match, and we ended up losing the quad championship by just a few points in the third set against a good team.”
Bethany Hagner laced 26 kills and collected eight service aces, while Rachel Brock had 41 digs. Danielle Chantrenne added 19 kills and 25 digs and Skyler DeMeyer spread out 32 assists to lead the Chiefs.
