The White Pigeon girls basketball team may not have turned in its best offensive performance on Tuesday night, but the Chiefs more than made up for it on the defensive end with the 40-27 nonleague victory over Lawton.
“We played good defense tonight, and offensively, we were a little rusty,” White Pigeon head coach Jeff Baechler said.
Haley Miller and Sydney Harmon did what they could to help the Chiefs shake that rust, though. Miller paced White Pigeon with 11 points and 13 rebounds, good enough for a double-double. Harmon was not far behind with 10 points and six boards.
The Chiefs stumbled over 21 turnovers, but were able to minimize them with their stout defense.
For Lawton, Rachel Gilley led the way with seven points and Clare Lyean added six.
White Pigeon moved to 9-8 overall.
