The White Pigeon girls basketball team improved to 1-1 this season after a 47-22 victory Friday on the road against Marcellus (0-1).
Riley Phelps scored a game-high 10 points on 5-for-6 shooting and finished with two steals and eight rebounds. Fellow guard Kathrina Hagner added nine points and four rebounds for the Chiefs, which had a 22-13 lead at the break.
“Defense was really impressive tonight,” White Pigeon coach Jeff Baechler said. “The Girls really played hard and I am so proud of the way we played tonight. We were patient offensively.”
White Pigeon shot 47.2 percent (17-for-36) from the field as a team and 50 percent (7-for-14) from the foul line. Hagner also chipped in a 3-pointer and three blocked shots.
Sydney Harmon and Rachel Brock each ended the night with six points, Danielle Chantrenne chipped in two points, an assist and two rebounds, Skyler DeMeyer finished with four points and four steals, Bethany Hagner contributed four points and four assists, Allie Bailey notched three points and four rebounds and Haley Miller ended the night with three points and four offensive rebounds.
Kaylie McEndarfer and Autums Ogrin led Marcellus with seven points each.
