A nearly flawless effort by Sydney Harmon wasn’t enough for the host White Pigeon girls basketball team to overcome its third-quarter drought Saturday in a 43-36 loss to Lake Michigan Catholic.
Harmon was 5-for-5 from the field, grabbed nine rebounds and turned the ball over just once for a team-high 13 points. Rachel Brock pocketed nine points for White Pigeon (4-2), which had a 24-17 halftime lead.
The Lakers got in a rhythm after the break, outscoring the Chiefs 16-4 in the third quarter.
“The girls played really hard against a really good team tonight,” White Pigeon coach Jeff Baechler said. “We just came up short at the end.”
Haley Miller scored six points and secured 12 rebounds, Allie Bailey had four points and six boards, Bethany Hagner added four points and two assists, Riley Phelps got two points, a block and a steal and Kathrina Hagner finished with a pair of boards.
The Chiefs were 12-for-36 from the floor and 1-for-6 from deep. They were 9-for-11 from the foul line and turned the ball over just 11 times.
Mary Vojtko led LMC with 14 points, followed by Hannah Seger (nine) and Carolyn Hardman (eight).
