White Pigeon beat Marcellus 58-39 in girls basketball Tuesday evening, getting a school-record 41 points from senior Claycee West. She broke her own record of 38 set as a sophomore in a blowout against Eau Claire. West finished with six three-pointers, seven two’s, and nine free throws.
The Chiefs used defensive success to set up much of their scoring, recording 18 steals, nine offensive rebounds, and 18 defensive boards.
“We played a really great defensive game tonight!” exclaimed WP head coach Brooke McClure. “We got a lot of steals that led to offensive points for us. Good game to win right after break for us!”
The loss drops Marcellus to 4-2 overall and 2-2 within the Southwest 10. The Wildcats travel to first place and defending league champ Centreville Friday.
White Pigeon moves to 4-3 off the victory and 3-2 in league play. The Chiefs travel to Cassopolis Friday.
