White Pigeon’s boys basketball team got hot at the right moment on Tuesday night.
But Colon was almost as hot at the same time.
Trailing 37-35 entering the fourth quarter, White Pigeon scored 21 points and held the Magi to 14 for a 56-51 victory.
It was the Chiefs’ one-two punch of Mitchell Moore and Dylan Hochstetler who did a lot of the damage. Moore scored a game-high 23 points and Hochstetler added 21. Both of them were instrumental in the fourth-quarter comeback as Hochstetler put in nine points and Moore added seven.
Moore also had eight rebounds, five steals, three assists and one blocked shot. Hochstetler grabbed seven rebounds for White Pigeon (4-7).
‘’I was really proud of the way our young men finished,’’ White Pigeon coach Tony Cholometes said. ‘’Despite being behind for much of the second half, they kept fighting and finished when it counted the most.
‘’Our 7-for-7 performance from the free throw line in the fourth quarter was a big key.’’
For Colon, it was Brad Brittingham with 21 points, nine of them coming in the wild fourth quarter. He also had 10 rebounds. Also for Colon, it was Tyler Schipper with three assists and five rebounds, Brandon Hinkley with five rebounds and two steals and Billy Vaughn with five rebounds, one steal and one assist.
