A 19-3 lead after the first quarter set up White Pigeon’s 61-56 St. Joseph Valley League victory Friday at home against Bronson.
Mitchell Moore scored 20 points and Mike Crowl, Dylan Hochstetler and Riley Olsen each finished with 10 for White Pigeon. David Miller registered nine points and Blake Groves added two to round out the scoring for the Chiefs.
“It’s a win, but our first- and third-quarter play must be the norm — not the exceptions,” White Pigeon coach Tony Cholometes said. “Defense must also be a constant, not an ever-changing aspect of our game. Our defense must be like the sun setting and rising — predictable, constant, sure. … We have a huge mountain ahead of us next Tuesday when we play Sturgis — a well-coached, talented team. We have to find that constant play if we are to compete with the Trojans.”
Moore also had six assists, eight steals and three rebounds, Crowl finished with three boards, Olsen notched four assists and Hochstetler posted two assists, five steals and four rebounds.
