Constantine earned a huge volleyball win in Tuesday’s home debut, defeating Centreville in five sets 25-20, 25-20, 21-25, 23-25, 15-4.
It was their first duel since the 2018 district tournament classic which saw a five set Bulldog victory. Leah Dumm led the way for the Falcons Tuesday with 18 kills and 26 digs. Madi Tulley scored 13 kills and 18 digs with Hannah Outlaw adding 10 kills.
“It felt so good to play, but we also knew it was possibly going to be a rough night of play as well,” said Centreville coach Deric Mostrom. “Going into the game, this was the first time we had a controlled competition in nine months. We worked hard all summer and throughout the first part of the season outside, just like everyone else, but we had no clue what today would hold. Mixing in the complication of losing six starters from last year and only returning two, we know we have a lot to work on in regards to getting the team to gel and work well together.”
Sarah Stauffer led the Bulldogs in defeat with 11 kills and 20 digs.
“Tonight was good. Good to play, good to struggle, good to come back and win a set, and yes…even good to lose. We have a lot of talent in this group, both younger and older. We will get there even if we have to go through some highs and lows….but we will get there!” added Mostrom.
Conference play starts in the SAC Valley Thursday as Constantine hosts Galesburg-Augusta. Centreville’s second match of the season will be their home and Southwest 10 Conference opener Thursday against Hartford.
