Video/Gallery/Recap: Centreville downs White Pigeon 16-0 in district slugfest

November 6, 2020 By Jordan Slocum

Centreville shutout White Pigeon 16-0 in Friday’s district semifinal football game, sending the unbeaten Bulldogs to a showdown next week with defending state champion Reading.

It was another slobber-knocker, much like the 14-8 Centreville win in week two.   The Chiefs have given the Bulldogs their only competitive games so far this season, but the outstanding Centreville defense clamped down for a fifth shutout, holding WP to 109 yards.   Centreville’s defense forced three turnovers with two interceptions and one fumble recovery.

Quarterback Sam Todd had 150 rushing yards for the Bulldogs and the lone first half score late in the second quarter on a one-yard run.   Midway through the fourth, he found Tristan McElroy on a five-yard TD pass.   Todd also led the Bulldog defense with nine tackles.

With the defeat, White Pigeon finishes the season at 4-3.   Graduating seniors for the Chiefs are Yzack Hagen, Collin Mayville, Lee Murphy, Anthony Rubio, Haydon Steeb, Irving Luna, Nick Bucher, Chase Burkey, Johnathan Hagner, Dominick Pant, and Noah Lane.

Centreville improves to 7-0 and hosts two-time defending state champ Reading next week in the district final.  The Rangers rolled Mendon 50-8 in their semifinal Friday.
