Kalamazoo Central hosted the JT Long Invitational track and field meet Friday, welcoming athletes from Loy Norrix, Portage Northern, Hackett Catholic, Schoolcraft, Lakeview, Paw Paw, and Grand Rapids Union. The Spartans ended up taking the top team score for both boys and girls with the Huskies getting second in both. The Maroon Giants had the third best boys team score and the Knights had the third place girls tally.
Among the top boys performers were PN’s Jayden Myers, who claimed gold in the long jump and was on the winning 4×100 and 4×200 relay teams. KC’s Kayenn Mabin won both hurdle events and HCP’s Isaac Backman saw top marks in the 200 and 400 dashes.
On the girls side, Lakeview’s Brazyll Watkins grabbed three golds with top honors in both hurdle races and the high jump. Union’s Christina Maze claimed first in the 100 meter and the long jump.
