Three Rivers finished runner-up at Saturday’s Hart Invitational behind Mason County Central, which finished with 191 points. The wildcats collected 125.5 points on the shoulders of fine top-three placers.
Bailey Miholer-Wortinger took home the 171-pound crown with pins against Mason County Central’s Blake Warner and Montague’s Brian Hufmann, along with a 10-8 decision over Ludington’s Logan Sorenson.
Evan Griffieon at 103 pounds, Jordan Blades (119), Shawn Brew, Michigan Grappler’s No. 7 wrestler in Division 2 at 160 pounds, and heavyweight Dallas Recker each took second in their respective weight classes.
“Everything clicked for me today and I took some moves I learned from Shawn Brew in practice and I was just having a good day,” said Miholer-Wortinger, who now has a 5-5 record. [Brew] knows the sport and he is my go-to guy whenever I have questions or anything. He can get you pumped up no matter how down you are.”
With a losing record to start the season heading into Saturday’s action, Miholer-Wortinger said the performance was a turning point for him.
“I was a big confidence booster,” he explained.
Brock Christie (112), Mike Vidmar (125) and Ben Vanscoik (130) placed third for Three Rivers, which hosts Coloma, Comstock and Vicksburg Wednesday in a Wolverine Conference double dual.
