Three Rivers wrestling continues to take care of business and came home from Saturday’s Hopkins Invitational with a victory.
The Wildcats scored 224 points, with Hamilton (216), Byron Center (189), South Haven (148), Hopkins (108) and Ludington (94) rounding out the field.
Byron Center entered the day ranked 10th in Division 2 by MichiganGrappler.com, but Three Rivers showed, despite an absence of key personnel, it belongs on that list.
Evan Griffieon went 5-0 at 103 pounds, Ben Vanscoik was first at 125, Bailey Miholer went 4-1 at 171 for first place and Dallas Recker steamrolled through the heavyweight bracket for a tourney title.
Mike Vidmar (130), Connor McElroy (140) and Sam Harris (215) each placed second for the Wildcats.
“We wrestled well considering we were short two kids today,” Three Rivers coach Pete Bachinski said. “Evan and Ben really turned a corner today and have stepped it up lately. We recorded a lot of pins today, which helped capture that team trophy even with being down two kids.”
