Three Rivers wrestling splits Wednesday’s Wolverine matches

January 22, 2014 By Wes Morgan

Three Rivers’ wrestling team, without three starters, managed to beat a solid host South Haven squad Wednesday 42-18 after falling to Wolverine Conference perennial power Allegan 59-12.

Senior 160-pounder Shawn Brew, a captain and state-ranked grappler in Division 2, is nursing a knee injury, while Brandon Verwey (189) and Nate Eldridge (152) were out due to illness.

“With three starters out tonight we still went at Allegan strong and didn’t give up on the mat,” Wildcats coach Pete Bachinski said. “Then they came back and beat a tough South Haven team.

“Sitting at 8-1 in the conference is a good thing, so now it’s time to just keep practicing and get ourselves ready for the end-of-the-season run coming up fast.”
