The Rivers’ volleyball team claimed a championship at Saturday’s Concord Tournament, defeating Madison 25-16, 15-14 in the Gold Bracket finals. Centreville advanced to the Silver Bracket championship match and lost to Addison 25-15, 25-18.
The Wildcats, which beat Pewamo-Westphalia, Centreville and Union City in pool play, then Jonesville and Perry in bracket play, outscored their six opponents 300-185.
Hannah Landis had seven aces, 28 kills, 13 blocks and 39 digs, Taylor Schultz finished with six aces, Teagan Reeves registered 12 aces, 47 kills, 18 blocks and 35 digs, Carly Nichols smacked 33 kills and came up with 33 digs, Morgan Roderick had eight blocks, Kalie Cole produced 92 assists and Molly Hawkins finished with 36 digs for Three Rivers.
“The girls did a great job,” coach Brandy Stalhood said. “We played really consistent, played tough defense and hit really well. Everyone contributed to bringing home the championship.”
Centreville split with Union City and lost to Pewamo-Westphalia in pool play, along with the defeat to the Wildcats. The Bulldogs claimed a 25-15, 25-18 win over Jackson Christian in the Silver semis before finishing runner-up to Addison.
Jenna Beeker claimed 10 aces, Madison Hunter recorded 51 assists, three blocks and 24 digs, Mattie Kirby had 21 kills and 24 digs and Bailee May slammed 37 kills.
“I thought we played well,” Centreville coach Melissa Gales said. “It was a long day and the girls played hard all day. Jenna Beeker had a great serve and passed excellent. Each time these girls take the court they are coming together. I’m excited to see where they continue to go this season.”
