Three Rivers girls XC revved up

August 22, 2013 By Wes Morgan

An experienced Three Rivers girls cross country team steps up to the starting line this fall for head coach Josh Bell.

Alicia Schmidtendorff (20:36) and Marley Guy (20:43) shined at the league championship to make the All-Wolverine squad. Along with Schmidtendorff and Guy, Jamie Barrett, Rain Barnes and Carolyn Kirchner were also All-St. Joseph County performers.

The Wildcats raced to a second-place finish in the conference’s West Division and were fourth in the league overall en route to a seventh-place performance at regionals (Division 2).

“We expect to improve in the division, conference and region,” Bell said. “With more experience and maturity these expectations can become reality. We expect improvement from all athletes, and it is very possible that we will qualify some runners to the state meet. This team is very dedicated and supportive of each other.”

Bell credits the readiness of this group to the summer training put in, including several young ladies who logged more than 100 miles each. Three Rivers’ first meet is Tuesday when it hosts the Hill Climb Invitational at Meyer Broadway Park.
