When the dust settled at Vicksburg on Friday evening the Eddies rolled out of town with a 54-7 victory over the previously undefeated Bulldogs. Edwardsburg’s defense was stout once again as they didn’t give up a score. The only score of the game for Vicksburg came midway through the second quarter when the Eddies fumbled an exchange in the backfield that led to a scoop and score by Stephen McCowen.
Edwardsburg’s offensive line was able to consistently provide gaping holes for the running backs to fly through. The Eddies stable of backs also made excellent reads when in the secondary and were able to pick up yards after contact. Mac Gaideski led all rushers as he toted the ball 16 times for 179 yards and 3 scores. Dillon Hursh also had some nice runs as he carried the rock 11 times for 81 yards and a score. Drew Bidwell ran it 8 times for 95 yards.
Other contributors to the Eddies offense were Quarterback Connor Nelson who was 1/1 for 28 yards passing thanks to a fantastic catch by Landon Mikel. The ball sailed on Mikel, but he was able to tip it to himself on the way to the ground for an acrobatic catch deep in Vicksburg territory. Nelson also ran the ball 4 times for 35 yards. Jaylynn Luster had 19 yards on 4 carries, Jackson Hoover had one score with 4 carries for 23 yards, and Logan McColley chipped in 47 yards on two carries.
Vicksburg was able to move the ball inside Edwardsburg territory on a few possessions before being turned away by turnovers. The first was a goalline INT on their second possession of the game. Another INT came at the Edwardsburg 6yd line midway through the second quarter. The Eddies defense gave up a total of 76 yards to the Bulldogs.
For the Bulldogs, Brandon Thompson rushed for 4 yards on 4 carries. Quarterback Jacob Conklin ran 5 times for 22 yards, and Elijah Bombich rushed 5 times for 11 yards. Conklin was 5/12 passing for Vicksburg for 42 yards and 2 INT’s. Chase Myers was the recipient of some of Conklins passes as he made 4 catches for 39 yards.
