The Wolverine Conference held the girls golf league championship Tuesday at Stonehedge North in Augusta. Sturgis freshman Madison Webb had an excellent showing, birdieing twice and placing second among all players with a 92. Only Plainwell’s Renae Jaeger was better with a score of 84.
Jaeger’s mark helped push Plainwell to first as a team with 394, followed by Allegan (398), Edwardsburg (406), and Sturgis (410).
For Sturgis, they also had Citori Kosmerick shoot a career-best 101, Mia Moreno at 104, Vianey Cardiel at 113 (a career best for her), Annabelle Bucklin at 118, and Hannah Falkenstein at 120.
“Although we always aim our sights at winning our Conference, we are pleased with our results and how we played,” said Trojans coach Kenneth Schau. “I’m happy with the play of all of the girls and their growth was on display. Being in contention for a championship late in a round is always exciting and I’m glad some of our newcomers got to experience that.”
Three Rivers didn’t have enough players for a team score, but still had three competitors. Laynie Zabonick led the way with 110, tying her personal best. Lily Zabonick set a career-best at 111 and Mariah Powell shot 159.
