The 2021 girls golf campaign ended this week for Sturgis and Three Rivers in the MHSAA regional championships. The Trojans hosted their regional at Island Hills Wednesday and had a team score of 428, placing 13th.
“Overall as a team, we didn’t play as well as we could have,” said Sturgis coach Kenneth Schau. “We hoped for a better result, but the girls played hard. It’s always a sad day when the season ends especially when you see Seniors playing their last matches.”
Madison Webb had the top Sturgis score at 102, followed by Mia Moreno (104), Vianey Cardiel (109), Annabelle Bucklin (113), and Citori Kosmerick (120). Byron Center was the top team at 339 and the top individual score at 76 from both BC’s Macie Elzinga and Portage Northern’s KT Leinwand.
Three Rivers sent two golfers to Regional #15 Monday at Orchard Hills in Buchanan. Laynie Zabonick’s 108 placed her 19th on the leaderboard with Lily Zabonick shooting 121. Parma Western was the top team at 380 and Plainwell’s Renae Jaeger took gold with an 80.
