In the County Cup match play event against Three Rivers at Sauganash Tuesday, the Sturgis girls golf team snagged seven of nine matches for the victory. The tournament included both the junior varsity and varsity squads from each school.
Holly Hines picked up the lone victory for Three Rivers, beating Taylor Williams 5 & 4. Sturgis’ Jessica Griffioen was a 3 & 1 winner over Brittany Klinger, Allison Harker defeated Emma Controy 1 up, Hannah Millard topped Anna Shutes 2 &1, Sidney Rains edged Callie McLeod 1 up, Allison Herman beat Brenin Booko 5 &3, Janeht Carrasco won her match 3 &1 against Imani Rivers and Courtney O’Brien defeated Becca Loenz 3&1. The Trojans’ Cameron Harper and Three Rivers’ Courtney Stevens halved their match.
“The girls had a lot of fun playing match play and were motivated to bring the Cup back to Sturgis,” Trojans coach Ken Schau said. “We’ve talked about having a better competitive spirit when we play and they are starting to demonstrate that in every match.”
