The Sturgis girls varsity swimming and diving team nabbed a 107-74 victory over Alma Saturday at Harper Creek after collecting seven career-best times and nine season-best performances.
Katie Strawser, a sophomore, took individual firsts in both the 200-yard individual medley (2:40.58) and the 100 breaststroke (1:18.04). In both events she recorded season-best times.
Laci Gottschalk (junior), Jasmyne Butters (senior), and Brittany Miller (senior) swept the top three spots, respectively, in the 100 butterfly. Butters recorded a career-best time of 1:37.49. Sophie Compton (sophomore) took second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 6:50.18. This was a career-best time by 11 seconds.
Alyssa Mealor (junior) took 11 seconds off of her career best time in the 200-yard freestyle to record a time of 3:01.93 and placing sixth.
“I am very proud of the hard work our girls have put in, and the results are there to show it,” Sturgis coach Kari Hatt said. “It will be a tough meet against Marshall next week, but I have confidence in my girls abilities and determination. We are getting better every week.”
Sturgis is back in action Tuesday at home at 6 p.m. against Marshall.
