The Sturgis boys varsity soccer team traveled to Kalamazoo Tuesday and picked up a 2-0 win over Loy Norrix. The Trojans got goals from Jonathan Gonzalez and Gustavo Santana, with an assist by Carlos Maldonado on the first strike.
Santana’s score came from 18-plus-yards out for Sturgis, which outshot the Knights 17-7. Goalie Isaac Montoya made four saves in the shutout.
“I am very pleased with my team’s defense formation,” Trojans coach Luis Olivares said. “Since the beginning of the year the whole team has been working hard on team defense formation and tonight it looks like we are going on the right direction. Even though we were shorthanded tonight because or injuries, the team showed character and stepped up to the challenge. We are looking forward to hosting Lakeview at home next Thursday.”
