Things got away from the Sturgis girls basketball team Friday in the fourth quarter as Battle Creek Harper Creek claimed a 46-25 Southwestern Michigan Athletic Association East Division road win.
Harper Creek, up just 25-21 going into the last eight minutes, flipped a switch for a 21-4 run to put it away. Olivia Leson and Nicole Gilbert both registered 13 points for the Beavers, which improved to 3-2 overall and 1-2 in the East.
Rachel Anderson led the Trojans (1-4, 1-3) with nine points, eight rebounds and two assists. Harmony Groves added five points, three rebounds and three steals and Morgan Pueschel posted four points, two assists, three steals.
Marissa Parker, Kayla Nichols, Jessie Cline and Gretchen Inman combined for seven points.
Sturgis shot 9-for-26 from the field and 6-for-14 from the free-throw line, while the Beavers shot 48.8 percent from the floor.
