The Sturgis boys basketball team blanked host Bronson in the first quarter and piled on the Vikings in the third for a 45-31 victory Thursday to finish the regular season with a 14-6 record.
Closing out the slate with another double-double was Trojans senior Chance Stewart, who scored 17 points and grabbed 12 rebounds. Junior Jack Scheske helped bury Bronson with 11 points, five rebounds and five assists.
A slow start for both teams resulted in a 5-0 Sturgis lead after eight minutes of play, and the Trojans would take a 16-11 advantage into the locker room. Bronson managed only two points in the third frame to completely lose touch as Sturgis netted 15 points.
Eric Toledo led the Vikings with seven points.
Andrew Airgood and Ryan Schuller both produced six points for Sturgis, which only shot 11-for-35 (31.4 percent) from the field and 1-for-9 from behind the 3-point arc. The Trojans defense, however, held Bronson to 25.6 percent (10-for-39) for the game. Sturgis outscored Bronson 22-8 at the foul line.
Tristen Stewart had three points, five rebounds, three steals and three assists for Sturgis, and Lonnie Wright chipped in two points from the stripe.
