Sturgis finished the bowling regular season at Richfield Bowl in Flint for a regional tune-up. The Trojan girls placed fifth in the qualifying and fell in the quarterfinal 334-287 to Freeland. The boys missed out on bracket play by taking 10th of 18 teams.
“Both teams struggled in the opening of qualifying through the baker games,” said coach Scott Spahr. “For the boys they could not overcome the deficit. The ladies responded in singles and showed the grit we have been working to instill.”
Kortnie Matz and Lydia Boland both made girls all-tournament team with a 371 series by Matz and 345 series by Boland. Leading the boys was Brayden Smoker with a 383 series and Caleb Henson-Bohlen at 365.

“Pleased with the effort today and feeling like we are ready to make a run this Friday at regionals,” said Spahr. “Going to be an exciting day.”
The Trojans have a Monday scrimmage with Portage Northern, then go to regionals at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo Friday.
