Colon saved its most efficient quarter for last Monday in a 46-39 varsity boys basketball victory over host Tekonsha.
An 8-3 first-quarter lead for the Magi led to a 16-13 advantage at halftime. Both teams picked up the pace in the third, with Tekonsha winning the quarter 13-11. A 19-point outburst in the fourth period for the Magi proved to be the difference.
Austin Stoll led Colon with 14 points and Andrew Smolarz was next in line with 11. The Magi shot 22.4 percent from the field and 60.7 percent (17-of-28) from the foul line for the game.
Jonathan Smolarz and Clayton Wolf both chipped in seven points for Colon, while Matthew Bissett finished with three, and Andy Stoll and Garrick Yaudes each had two. Austin Stoll led the way with 16 rebounds, Wolf pulled down 14 and Andrew Smolarz had 12 boards. Jonathan Smolarz got his hands on nine rebounds and Yaudes had three.
Philip Alva had a team-high two assists, Austin Stoll blocked six shots and registered two steals, and Wolf blocked three shots.
