Justice Steiner and Conor Gausselin combined for 30 points Friday night to lead the Battle Creek St. Philip boys basketball team to a 61-42 victory over visiting Colon.
St. Philip established inside control early in the contest and built a 28-15 lead by halftime. All told, St. Philip scored 24 points from inside the painted area.
Steiner scored a co-game-high 17 points, while Gausselin chipped in with 13. Senior Jack Gallagher added nine points for St. Philip.
Andrew Smolarz tossed in 17 points for the Magi, including three 3-point baskets, to go along with seven rebounds and three steals. Philip Alva added 10 points for Colon, while Austin Stoll finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Clayton Wolf (5 points) and Andy Stoll (2 points) refunded out the scoring for Colon.
Colon shot a chilly 31 percent from the field (13 of 42), and was outrebounded by a 37-27 margin. The Magi also committed 25 turnovers.
St. Philip shot 42.4 percent afield (25 of 59).
