The final day of the 2018-19 high school sports season has arrived and four area teams are competing Saturday for the grand prize at Michigan State University. You can listen to the championship games for Portage Northern baseball, Kalamazoo Christian soccer and softball, and Schoolcraft softball via the embedded player at the bottom of the article.
The schedule and matchups are as follows:
9 AM ET – Division 1 Baseball Championship – Portage Northern (38-7) vs Rockford (28-9)
Both teams are playing in their second-ever baseball final. PN was the 2015 runner-up and the Rams captured the 2011 crown.
1 PM ET – Division 4 Girls Soccer Championship – Kalamazoo Christian (21-2-2) vs Royal Oak Shrine Catholic (21-1-0)
It’s K-Christian’s third consecutive finals and seventh overall. They were runner-up in the last two seasons and took it all in 2008, 07, 04, and 03. Shrine had never won even a district title until their impressive run this season.
3 PM ET – Division 4 Softball Championship – Kalamazoo Christian (33-7) vs Unionville-Sebewaing (30-9)
The Comets are playing in the softball final for the 12th time and will aim for their 8th title. They most recently were runner-up in 2015 and 14 and champ in 2013. USA won it all in 2016 and 2015 and took runner-up in the prior two years.
*NOTE: Due to having to switch venues between soccer and softball, the Division 4 softball broadcast may begin after first pitch. Coverage will resume as soon as possible.
5:30 PM ET – Division 3 Softball Championship – Schoolcraft (32-4) vs Millington (37-2-1)
The Eagles are shooting for their first-ever softball state title. The Cardinals were the runner-up to Coloma last season in their first-ever finals appearance.
