The Sturgis girls basketball team fell at home to Lakeview on Friday night 51-37, but it wasn’t for the lack of effort by the team, or its six elder statesmen on Senior Night.
“[I’m] very proud of the way the girls came out and played tonight,” Sturgis coach Amie Burger said. “It was a big game for our six seniors and the team fought hard for them.
“We brought a lot of intensity on defense and looked to attack on offense. The girls continued to work hard the whole game and gave a great overall team effort.”
Rachel Anderson and Marissa Parker paced Sturgis (6-14, 3-11). Anderson had 13 points, six rebounds and five blocks while Parker added 11 points.
Nikki Nelson was good for seven points while Courtney Lovelace drained the game-opening bucket on her way to three points for Sturgis.
Jessie Cline and Gretchen Inman each added a point.
The Trojans take on Vicksburg next Wednesday in a Class B district semifinal at Sturgis.
