Mendon won the District #115 softball championship on their home diamond Saturday.
The Hornets beat Burr Oak 8-0 in the semifinal, then defeated Colon 8-1 in the championship. The Magi won their semifinal 16-3 over Howardsville Christian.
It was a pitching duel early with no score until Mendon got three runs in the fifth inning. They added five in the seventh to put the Bobcats away. Lauren Schabes tossed a shutout for the Hornets in game one, striking out nine with no walks and four hits allowed. Izzy Smith had a home run.

The Hornets got early offense in the championship with two runs in the first inning. They added three more in the fourth and three in the sixth. Schabes pitched great again, allowing just one earned run in the seventh. Schabes allowed only two hits and one walk over the complete game win with nine more strikeouts. Payton Griffith had three hits and three RBI.
Mendon (31-4) advances to next Saturday’s regional semifinal against Kalamazoo Christian with a 10 a.m. first pitch at Decatur. The Raiders and Bridgman are on the other side of the bracket.
