Close-range shots wouldn’t fall for the Burr Oak boys basketball Tuesday in a 59-47 loss at Battle Creek St. Philip.
The Bobcats trailed 35-16 at halftime before outscoring their opponent by seven the rest of the way and ultimately running out of time.
James Saylor scored nine points on a trio of 3-pointers for Burr Oak, which didn’t have a player shoot higher than 36 percent from inside the arc. Brent Everitt and Christian Eckert registered eight points apiece and Chantz Owens added seven.
Kenny Walston posted six points, Logan Mount chipped in four, Justin Mullins finished with three and Cole Summey had two.
“We played a tough game tonight,” Burr Oak coach Dave Brackett said. “We fell just short of a comeback. You can’t expect to win many games when you shoot poor from the inside and free throw line (11-for-21). We now have to get ready for another tough road game Friday at Litchfield.”
