Schoolcraft volleyball secured a second consecutive regional championship Thursday night from Bridgman as they defeated conference rival Kalamazoo Christian 25-11, 28-26, 25-6. The second-ranked Eagles once again were the playoff nemesis of the Comets, knocking KC out for the fourth straight season.
The first set was all Schoolcraft for an easy 25-11 win. K-Christian came out firing in the second, racing out to an early seven-point advantage. The Eagles erased the hole at the 15-15 mark, followed by a back-and-forth that saw 12 total ties in the frame. After failing on three straight set points, Schoolcraft secured the second at 28-26 on an Anna Schuppel block. The Eagles then rolled the deflated Comets in the third 25-6.
Unofficially, Maggie Morris led the Schoolcraft offense with 12 kills. KC’s Avery Ekkens led all players with 13 kills. The Comets finish at 23-6-1 and graduate seniors Ekkens, Kelcey Cook, and Nyla deJong.
The Eagles improve to 33-3 and will face Calvin Christian in Tuesday’s quarterfinal, which you can hear live via JoeInsider.com. The match will be at Loy Norrix High School with a 7 p.m. ET start.
