Schoolcraft snagged 11-1 and 7-2 softball wins Thursday at Kalamazoo Christian, starting the year and their SAC Valley title defense with a 2-0 record. The Eagles saw solid pitching in both games as Mikayla Meade and Adrienne Rosey allowed only three runs and 11 hits over their 13 innings of work.
Game one had a 2-1 score entering the top of the fifth inning, which then saw an Eagle explosion. Schoolcraft scored six in the fifth on seven hits. They added three more to reach the run-rule threshold in the sixth, capping scoring with a Kelby Goldschmeding two-run home run.
Kelby was 4-4 with two runs and two RBI. Danielle Blyly added three hits, two runs, and two RBI. Kayla Onken scored two runs on three singles with one RBI and Allie Goldschmeding had two hits and two runs. The Comets notably saw three singles and a run from Jayme Koning.

The Eagles inched ahead despite only two hits in the first five innings, aided by fielding woes, wild pitches, and passed balls. K-Christian made it a one run game on a Sydney Duong two-run dinger to dead center in the bottom of the fifth inning. Schoolcraft then saw five hits and four runs in the final two innings to pull away. Adrienne Rosey struck out 10 in her complete game victory.
Kayla Onken had two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Allie Goldschmeding had two more hits and Mikayla Slavin scored twice on two walks, plus a RBI single. Clare Dirksen got on thrice for the Comets via two singles and a walk.

Schoolcraft starts 2-0 and has another tough foe ahead with a Friday trip to Vicksburg. The Comets begin 0-2 and return to action in Saturday’s Portage Central Invite, which also will feature the Eagles.
