Schoolcraft edged Hackett Catholic Prep 53-51 in Monday’s girls basketball regional semifinal at Watervliet. Mackenzie Miller hit the decisive bucket as time expired to advance the Eagles, avenging their two regular seasons defeats against the Irish.
Free throws with 36 seconds left from Anna Schuppel tied the game for Schoolcraft at 51-51 and saw HCP’s Krystina Kasson foul out. The Eagles defense forced a held ball with 7.7 seconds left and got possession back via the arrow, setting up Miller’s decisive bucket.
With the victory, the Eagles improve to 13-2 and advance to Wednesday’s 7 p.m. regional championship from Watervliet against Gobles. If Schoolcraft wins, they’d advance to the quarterfinal for the third time in program history. The Eagles beat the Tigers 45-26 and 36-13 in the regular season.
Hackett finishes the season at 15-1 and graduates five seniors; Krystina Kasson, Katey Reasoner, Bianca Cronen, Megan Bowden, and Megan Redmond.
