Schoolcraft closed the 2018 portion of their schedule with a 41-38 win Friday at Battle Creek Central, closinf the first night of the 50th Chuck Turner Holiday Classic.
The Eagles opened with a 5-0 run, which would end up being the largest lead for either team in the first half. Schoolcraft took a 15-12 lead into the first quarter break, but were held to only five points in the second. After five first half lead changes, the Bearcats entered halftime with a 24-20 advantage.
Battle Creek Central grew their lead to eight in the third quarter, the biggest it would get, and slowed the pace with ball control and lengthy possessions. The Eagles only had one bucket halfway through the third, but finished on an 8-2 run to tie the game at 30 entering the fourth quarter. Tyler DeGroote’s basket to open the fourth gave Schoolcraft the lead, which they’d hold for the rest of the game.
The Eagle defense kept the Bearcats to two total points for the first six minutes of the fourth, pushing the Schoolcraft advantage to 39-32. BCC would get two quick baskets to get back within three with a minute remaining. Schoolcraft left the door open just enough at the free throw line, giving the Bearcats the final possession trailing 41-38. However, KeOndre Glass’s corner three-pointer sailed long, allowing the Eagles to hold on for the win.
Kobe Clark paced Schoolcraft with 18 points, followed by 11 from Tyler DeGroote. Andra’ Burroughs was Battle Creek Central’s best with 10.
The Bearcats fall to 3-4 and close out the Chuck Turner Classic in Saturday’s 8 p.m. nightcap against Pennfield. Saturday sees six games total at the Fieldhouse with the action starting at 10 a.m., also including St. Philip, Union City, Bellevue, Bronson, Lakeview, and Harper Creek.
