One of the driving forces for the Constantine varsity girls track program again this spring, Cassie McNamara, our Safety Glasses USA Athlete of the Week for St. Joseph County, had herself a fine week on the track.
The junior was part of four event victories Saturday for the Falcons, who finished second overall in the 10-team field with 1,073.5 points. Centreville’s girls team won the meet with 1,174.5 points.
McNamara raced to a win in the 100 meters with a season-record time of 13.29 seconds. She added a 300 hurdles victory with a time of 50.07 before handling the anchor leg of Constantine’s 400 relay, which edged Centreville by a second in 52.81. Earlier in the meet, McNamara set a personal-record in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet, 1.50 inches.
The Falcons also topped Southwestern Athletic Conference opponent Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep 99-30 in a dual meet last Wednesday at Sweetland Stadium. McNamara swept the hurdles races with an 18.49 in the 100s and a 53.66 in the 300s. She also ran the anchor leg for the Falcons’ winning 400 relay that clocked in at 54.24.
McNamara was a Division 3 All-State (300 hurdles) and Academic All-State selection in 2017.
