A pair of local teams and two individuals advanced from the regional round Thursday and will compete in the Michigan High School Athletic Association girls golf state finals next weekend at Michigan State University.

Moving on to the state tournament were champion St. Joseph (358), runner-up Byron Center (368) and Gull Lake (384). Sturgis missed a top-three finish by a stroke, finishing fourth with 385.
Portage Northern’s KT Leinwand shot a 79 as the only local individual state qualifier. She was three strokes behind medalist Maya Hunter of St. Joseph, who shot a 76. Gull Lake’s Annie Betts was sixth overall with an 88. Teammates Lauryn Jerke (97), Allie Hirzel (99), Kiley King (100) and Ashley Miller (107) finished strong to push the Blue Devils to the finals.
For Sturgis, which was coming off its fifth Wolverine Conference championship in six years, Alexis Devries fired an 89 for seventh place, Carli Sanford carded 90, Madisen Percival shot 96, Mia Moreno had a score of 110 and Vianey Cardiel finished with 112.

Charlotte cruised to a regional title with 393, followed by additional state qualifiers Harper Creek (403) and Allegan (405). Three Rivers was sixth with a team score of 425, led by Jayley Zeimet’s 10th-place round of 100. Also competing for the Wildcats were Illyanna Taylor (103), Amy Adams (108), Isabella Hoxie (114), Laynie Zabonick (118).
Vicksburg finished 10th overall. Haylee Goodall paced the Bulldogs with a 112, which was good for 28th place, followed by Danielle Diekman (113), Katie Bell (114), Maci Crabtree (120) and Sophie Evans (129).

Kalamazoo Hackett Catholic Prep secured a regional championship after three players landed in the top 10. The Irish posted a 379 to beat South Haven (385) and NorthPointe Christian (388). Kalamazoo Christian placed fifth (415), Schoolcraft was sixth (424) and Comstock was eighth (478).
For Hackett, Lauren Rex shot 90 for third place, Colleen McNally put together a round of 93 (fifth) and Meg Christian was sixth with a 94. Ellie Christian shot 102 and K.J. Walters added a round of 94.
Kalamazoo Christian’s Kyle Gernaat snagged an individual qualifying spot at the state finals with a round of 97.
Schoolcraft’s Annika Peterson and Ella Eddy both finished with 101 to lead the Eagles, and Tia Geer was Comstock’s top placer with 108.
