Colon’s wrestling team finished third at the Athens Tournament Saturday with 87 points, while Constantine’s ‘B’ team placed sixth with 73.
Athens took the top spot with a score of 220, followed by Portage Central ‘B’ (129).
Darrin Abraham turned in a second-place finish at 130 pounds with a 2-1 record. Placing third individually for the Magi were Brendon Ringler (103 pounds), Daniel Alva (125), Kale Schumacher (189) and Chase Thrams (215). Dylan Paturalski was fourth at 103, as was Ben Weaver (160). Derek Sechrest finished fifth at heavyweight.
“Having had only eight kids wrestling today, we were very happy with a third-place finish,” Colon coach Darrin VandenBerg said. “Having such a small team we never really expect much on the team side of things, so it’s a nice surprise when we finish competitively in a tournament.”
