Elijah Klepper rushed for three touchdowns in the first half to propel Mendon to a 47-0 victory Friday against visiting Buchanan. The second-ranked Hornets (Division 8) improved to 8-0 with one regular-season game left to play.
Klepper piled up 170 yards on 10 carries, Kaleb McCarroll ran 11 times for 120 yards and two TDs, Brandon Bray added 116 yards and a score on four takes and quarterback Jordan Medich completed 3 of 4 passing attempts for 61 yards and a touchdown.
Josh Hawkins gave Buchanan (2-6) fits with 12 tackles, Derek Zagon posted 10 stops, Parker Cupp and Kyle Wiswell each finished with seven and Klepper capped his night with two sacks. The Hornets defense has allowed just 13 points all season.
Mendon wraps up its schedule with a trip Alma College Saturday to take on Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart, which is 6-2 this year. A Hornets win would complete the 11th undefeated regular season in head coach John Schwartz’ tenure.
