There’s always something to play for in a rivalry game. For Vicksburg Friday night it was the opportunity to prevent host Three Rivers from picking up a sixth victory. The Bulldogs’ 14-point third quarter did exactly that in a 21-17 win.
Vicksburg (4-5) quarterback Dalton Ketelaar scored on a 3-yard run and returned an interception 25 yards for a touchdown to do most of the damage for his team. He finished with 61 rushing yards and completed 7 of 11 passes for 76 yards. Nick Wallace ran for 96 yards and a 14-yard TD on 16 takes.
Three Rivers (5-4) quarterback Alex Cottingham was 7-for-18 passing for 84 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. The Wildcats’ Bailey Miholer-Wortinger posted 94 rushing yards and a score on 14 carries and Kyle Walczak finished with 51 yards and a TD on four receptions.
The defensive front by Vicksburg complicated what the Wildcats wanted to do in the regular season finale. And a seven-minute drive in the fourth quarter by the Bulldogs forced Three Rivers to use all its timeouts and watch the game slip away.
