Listen live Thursday evening via JoeInsider.com as Vicksburg hosts Edwardsburg for the top spot in the Wolverine Conference volleyball standings.
The winner will claim at least a share of the conference championship. Both enter the evening at 7-0 in Wolverine play, followed by Three Rivers still in the hunt at 5-1. The Eddies handed the Wildcats their lone league loss last week, meanwhile the Bulldogs travel to Three Rivers next Thursday. Overall, Vicksburg sits at 22-9-5 and Edwardsburg is 22-5.
The Bulldogs and Eddies battled thrice in 2017. Edwardsburg won the regular season home duel 3-0 (25-15, 25-19, 25-23). In their conference tournament semifinal rematch, Vicksburg won 2-0 (25-16, 27-25). Two days later, they had a five-set classic in the district tournament won by Edwardsburg (25-20, 25-22, 23-25, 18-25, 15-11). These teams could meet again in this season’s district tournament hosted at Edwardsburg.
Vicksburg is the defending conference tournament champion, although this year there will not be an end-of-season tournament. South Haven was last year’s regular season champ at 9-0, followed by the Eddies at 8-1 and the Bulldogs at 7-2.
Historically, Vicksburg also won the tournament in 2014 and 1978, while taking the regular season title in 78 and divisional titles in 2013 and 2014 during a divisional split. Despite overall athletic success since joining the league in 2012, Edwardsburg has yet to claim a volleyball title.
