Listen live Friday via JoeInsider.com as Paw Paw hosts homecoming versus Vicksburg for week seven of the high school football season.
Both have been among the best in the Wolverine Conference in 2019. Paw Paw is 6-0, tied with defending league and state champion Edwardsburg, whom they battle in week nine. Vicksburg is 5-1, only falling against the Eddies in week four. PPHS has also been at or near the top of the Division 4 Associated Press rankings for the last month.
Paw Paw has had dominant defense so far, holding their first six foes to 42 total points. Their only game within two possessions was the 28-14 week five win over Otsego. Four of Vicksburg’s five wins were by three touchdowns or better, with the exception being their 49-42 week five shootout with Three Rivers.
Last season’s meeting was a 29-21 Paw Paw winner. Back in 2017, the Bulldogs secured a 21-12 victory. According to Michigan-Football.com, they’ve played 48 times since 1952 with Vicksburg leading the series 30-18.
The first listed meetings were in 1952 and 1953 prior to either joining the Wolverine. They wouldn’t meet again until Paw Paw joined the Wolverine Conference in 1961, playing annually until they left for the Kalamazoo Valley Association in 1982.
They met randomly once in 1987 before re-establishing the rivalry as regular non-conference foes beginning in 1995. They became Wolverine rivals once more when Paw Paw rejoined the league in 2006.
