The Comets have taken state runner-up honors in the last two seasons against Lansing Christian. To get there last season, K-Christian edged North Muskegon in the semifinal 2-1 after penalty kicks, forcing overtime with a goal in the final five minutes. They also met the Norse in the 2007 semifinal with the Comets winning 3-1.
Kalamazoo Christian blew out Black River 6-0 in Friday’s regional final and topped Jackson Lumen Christi 3-1 in last week’s regional semifinal, putting them at 20-2-2 overall. North Muskegon improved to 20-2 with their 4-0 regional final win against seventh-ranked Houghton Lake and 5-0 semifinal win against Calvin Christian.
