The lights will be on Saturday night at Leo Hoffman Field. For the first time, this season the Eddies (11-0) will be playing a Saturday night contest when they welcome in the Holland Christian Maroons (8-3).
Last week the Maroons beat Grand Rapids South Christian Sailors by the score of 22-19 for the District Championship. The last time Holland Christian was crowned District Champions was in 2009. They are part of the OK Green conference, and all three of their losses came from conference foes. They lost to Hudsonville Unity Christian, Zeeland East, and Zeeland West. All three of those teams have made it into the playoffs, with two of them in their own Regional Championships.
Edwardsburg beat up on Paw Paw last week in the District Championship game. After a scoreless first quarter, they were able to pull away for a 49-10 victory. The Eddies are undefeated on the season beating opponents by an average score of 52-6.
The only common opponent these teams have had was Otsego. Back on August 31, the Eddies beat the Bulldogs by a score of 73-0. Otsego did eventually qualify for the playoffs only to come up against the Maroons in the first round. Holland Christian quickly dispatched of them by the final score of 53-13.
To the victor go the spoils on Saturday night. The winner will be crowned Regional Champion and the loser will call it a season. The Eddies haven’t fared well against private schools, but this is a different season and a different team hoping for a different outcome. Catch the action live starting at 6:40 pm on the Cass County Media Player.
