The District Championship matchup is all set for this Friday night. The 10-0 Edwardsburg Eddies are traveling up to Zeeland to take on the 9-1 Zeeland West Dux at Zeeland Stadium. The Dux come into the contest having won 5 games in a row. Their loss was week 5 of the season against Bryon Center, 22-23. Zeeland is led by senior running back, Chase Peddie, and junior quarterback, Carson Gulker. They beat up on Zeeland East in the Pre-District game, 38-7. The Dux have been giving up 17 points per game this year while averaging 40 points themselves. They are outsourcing opponents 404-170 this season.
The Edwardsburg Eddies come in with a 24 game winning streak on the line. They are led by seniors Mac Gaideski, Dillon Hursh, and Conner Nelson. They are led on the ground by a powerful offensive line made up of Josh Priebe, Ethan Griffin, Gage Strawdermann, Peyton Brady-Brittain, and Bennett Myers. Defensively they bring just as much thunder as they do on the offense. Edwardsburg was able to shut down the powerful passing attack of the St. Joseph Bears to advance to the District Championship. They beat the Bears 42-8. The Eddies defense is giving up around 7 points per game, while they score an average of 50 points per game. They are outscoring opponents 453-67 this season.
This will be the first time these two teams have met, and is sure to be an epic showdown. Years ago it was this very Dux coaching staff that taught Coach Bartz and the Eddies the finer points of the Wing-T offense. These two teams will be looking in the mirror when they square off against each other. It is likely to come down to controlling the line of scrimmage and execution of the offense. This is sure to be a classic playoff game, and we’ll be there to cover it for you. Tune in to JoeInsider.com starting at 6:40 pm for the pregame on Friday evening.
