For the third year in a row, the Lady Eddies are headed to the Regional Championship match. In 2017, the Eddies went 5 sets with Niles and landed short in the end. In 2018, the Eddies had revenge on their minds and avenged their loss to Niles in sweeping fashion only to find a new foe in Hamilton in the Regional Championship game. Frustratingly, the same outcome, as the Eddies would go toe to toe with the Hawkeyes but again fall short in the 5th set.
2019’s team started with only one team on their mind. Hamilton. Eddies have won 3 District Championships in a row and 2 Conference Championships in a row while extending their season to Regional Championships 3 years in a row. That is rare air for any program in the state to be able to accomplish. Add to that 3 coaching changes in 4 years and the picture focuses on what true talent the Eddies have in order to do what they do.
They say third time is a charm and for this team, I would have to agree. The precision that Coach Nikki Bush has these girls playing is that of an experienced surgeon. Case in point was last night’s total dismantling of the Vicksburg Bulldogs in the Regional Semifinal match. Earlier on in the season, the Eddies lost a 5 set match which sent the team into a mental tailspin. But the Eddies bounced back stronger than ever with sweeps of Plainwell, Niles, Buchanan, and then Vicksburg last night.
Eddies should have been celebrating a victory last night, however, as soon as they could change out of uniform, many Lady Eddies sat quietly and studied their next opponent and now know what they must do. Thursday night will be a culmination of a 4-year journey of this Eddie Volleyball program and to take the next step, they’ll have to pass their most difficult task.
